When writing the Quinta Quarterly, the Winter edition always feels like it comes around the fastest. Weren’t we just celebrating Australia Day? The first six months of the year is a marathon for us, but we’ve enjoyed another excellent vintage, our biggest Tastes of Rutherglen ever and bottled some great new releases, including our Jack’s Block Shiraz and Reserve Durif.
It’s been so long since we released a Jack’s Block that we had to ask “what is it? What does it mean to our customers, and to us here at S&K?”. The answer is the same for all of our wines. We want it to be the best possible expression of our environment and specific vineyard sites with the purity of fruit taking a lead role, in careful harmony with all key winemaking components. Balance is a buzz word for us and it’s the main aim for all of our wines. Perhaps you once knew the Jack’s Block and Reserve Durif as a ‘knock-your-head off” style, but we think you can still have a powerful and richly flavoured wine whilst keeping oak and alcohol levels in check.
We’re hoping that our Portuguese white varieties planted in 2014 will be ready to harvest next year. One variety, Antão Vaz, is still in quarantine, but you can look forward to a crisp, refreshing bottle of Alvarinho or Arinto. Please visit our website for more detailed blog posts on all S&K news and events and for downloadable tasting notes of your favourite wines.
Cheers, Natasha Killeen
