For many, the summer holidays are a time of slowing down and recharging, but for us, it’s when we start the hustle and haul of making wine. The vineyard team are in full swing and won’t slow down until April or May when the last of the grapes are harvested. The winemaking team - still working on our 2017 wines - are also prepping the barrels, tanks and equipment in time for vintage, which usually starts around Australia Day for us when we pick the Chardonnay, and a short time later, Muscat (for Moscato and Sparkling).
We’re open 364 days a year so the cellar door and admin team work around the clock to make sure our customers get the best service. It’s also when we are getting ready for key festivals like Tastes of Rutherglen. Last year was the first year the format changed to offer more choice and flexibility to customers and it was a huge success for the region.
This year will be no different so save the date for 10th-11th of March. S&K will feature local acoustic duo Southbound, guided masterclasses with our winemaker and food by La Maison, one of the best restaurants in the Albury/Wodonga area. Succulent calamari, and a Spanish-inspired beef burger with duck-fat potatoes will shine with our carefully matched wines, along with ‘secret recipe’ baklava and Persian pavlova- a match made in heaven with our Classic Muscat, winner of four trophies this year.
Our fortified wines have always been held in high regard, and popularity has been growing with the addition of our Barrel Club allowing customers to start their own blends at home. We’ve just started offering special custom gift bottles to members; you can read more about it below. Last Friday we sent an email to our Barrel Club members releasing super-premium, single-vintage bulk fortifieds. Didn't get this email? Let Joe know so we can you you don't miss out next time.
We wish you all safe and happy holidays from Natasha Killeen and the S&K team.
