Halliday gives 5 stars to Stanton & Killeen
James Halliday has given Stanton & Killeen Wines 5 Red Stars in the
The Australian Wine Companion 2009.

“Outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity. Will have at least two wines rated at 94 points or above and have had a five-star rating for the previous two years.”

The wines rated most highly by Halliday are:

Rare Rutherglen Muscat “deep brown olive rimmed, has fantasic flair and style; in the mouth there is still a core of fresh Muscat fruit encased in a complex web of nutty, raisin-accented rancio spirit the hidden scalpel.
Rating 96”

Rutherglen Durif 2005 “deep colour, it is impossible not to be impressed with the power of this variety, especially when made by winemakers as skilled as the late Chris Killeen. The secret is to control the extract and give the wines the freedom to fully express themselves.
Rating 94”

Rutherglen Vintage Port 2003 “rich and lusciously complex, thanks to 45% of four Portuguese varieties, the remainder shiraz and durif; flavours of dark chocolate, licorice and spice, the palate sweet, but drying off appropriately on the finish.
Rating 94”

Grand Rutherglen Muscat “full olive-brown, clear cut rancio, aligns with clean spirit and spicy/grapey fruit, excellent balance and structure, the tannis subliminal but giving another dimension to the flavour, very long fine finish.
Rating 94”
