Summer Quinta Quarterly

Wednesday, November 23, 2016

For the second year in a row, we’ve been shortlisted for the Australian Wine Producer of the Year Trophy at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. To be recognised for consistent quality is a great way to finish 2016, and a what a year it’s been. The weather has been superb and if it stays relatively dry and mild, the 2017 vintage will be another standout (my fingers are crossed as I’ve put my hand up again to be the cellar hand). Continue reading...

The Return of Jack's Block?

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

Wine lovers young and old have been pleading with us to know when the next Jack’s Block Shiraz will be released. If we had a dollar for every time someone asked us this, well…we wouldn’t need to be winemakers to say the least. Not since 2008 have we bottled this iconic drop, made using fruit from fourth generation Jack Stanton’s vineyard planted in 1921.  Continue reading...

Great Wines Are Made in the Vineyard

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

There's no better winemaking adage than "great wines are made in the vineyard". You can do the fanciest science with the ferments and buy the best oak, but unless the fruit is in top condition once it hits the winery during vintage, it's like trying to use cheap plastic wrap...it just doesn't work. Our vineyards have been a top priority over the last few years and when Ruston Prescott joined Stanton & Killeen as our Viticulturist in December 2013, he and his team had their work cut out for them.  Continue reading...

Winery Walkabout 2016 Photo Library

Monday, June 27, 2016

We had a blast this year at Winery Walkabout, one of Victoria's biggest wine festivals. Great weather meant the crowds could enjoy the sunshine (except for a wet and windy 20 minute stint on Saturday) and the George McFloyd Blues Band kept everyone's toes tapping. There was a touch of excitement when a shuttle bus got bogged but it wouldn't be a country festival without a tractor to save the day.  Here's a selection of photos from #WineryWalkabout2016 and we look forward to seeing old and new faces next year! Continue reading...

Vintage 2016 Natasha's Report

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

When the opportunity arose for me to work vintage at Stanton & Killeen for 2016, I accepted it with a sense of curiosity and trepidation. My memories tell me that vintage was always a mysterious time, when Dad would disappear for days and nights and return with dark shadows under his eyes and a generous 5 o’clock shadow. Would I be able to deal with the physical challenge? Would I accidentally pump red wine into white wine? Continue reading...
